We organized a pop-up clinic in Siler City, NC, a community with many underserved migrant workers employed in the chicken processing industry who struggle to access healthcare. We identified the need for healthcare services in this area through conversations with the Chatham County Public Health Department. After reaching out to UNC Health’s mobile clinic, we developed a plan to bring care to this community. To promote the event, student volunteers spent weekends for months going door to door at homes and businesses, distributing flyers and sharing information. We also partnered with local organizations like The Hispanic Liaison and used community channels to spread the word. Our efforts resulted in more than 50 people signing up for the clinic, where we provided flu shots, cholesterol and A1C screenings, and blood pressure checks. Patients were enthusiastic, and we focused on building trust within the community by offering free, accessible care. The event was a great success, marking our first time organizing a clinic from the ground up, and we look forward to hosting similar events in the future.
